The Lighthouse, Scotland's Centre for Design and Architecture, is proud to showcase the latest in design from Scotland. Designing for the Future presents work by some of the brightest design graduates to emerge from Scotland's four renowned schools of art along with architectural designs for V&A at Dundee, a new international centre of design for Scotland to be housed in a world-class building on Dundee's waterfront. Together the designs on show highlight the important role of Scotland’s institutions in both inspiring and developing contemporary design talent.

Showcasing concepts designed in response to issues around sustainability, health, education and equality, this new generation of designers is represented by projects selected from the 2011 degree shows at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Edinburgh College of Art, Gray's School of Art and The Glasgow School of Art. Design education in Scotland enables students to engage with the social challenges of everyday life and this exhibition demonstrates how designers are actively participating in shaping the world around them.

The Lighthouse, opened in 1999 during Glasgow's City of Design and Architecture, aims to inspire, inform and challenge an audience of design enthusiasts. It produces a programme that supports designers to reach their potential through inspiring exhibitions, talks and platforms for debate, develops networks between design, industry and business and showcases the best of Scottish and British design in an international context. The Lighthouse encourages people to enjoy and explore their designed world and to create projects that deepen the public's interest in architecture and design and stimulate the profession.

V&A at Dundee will be the first ever purpose-built design museum to be constructed in the UK outside London. It will provide more than 1,700 square metres of flexible gallery space, with one of the largest dedicated museum standard exhibition spaces in Scotland. The galleries will host world-class exhibitions of design, alongside displays devoted to outstanding Scottish design - historical, contemporary and of the future.Through its wider learning and outreach programmes V&A at Dundee will inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to learn and get involved in design creativity.
